Question:

Geeks or nerds?

I am of the opinion that the term 'geek' is no longer a particularly negative term - it simply means someone who is moderately intelligent and at home with modern technology - whereas 'nerd' still carries the implication of someone who is a bit weedy and socially inept. However, one of my friends thinks they are the other way round. (Both of us agree that 'dork' is still an insult.)

What does everyone think? Would you prefer to be called a nerd or a geek? Or would you still be insulted by either term?

  1. i think that they are stereotypes

and that they are both insulting. :]

  2. at my school if your smart then your considred "cool" if your not smart then your a geek or a nerd why i do not know

  3. geeks do (sometimes) have a social life, but are interested in there academic work.

nerds are more video games made and don't have much of a social life.

  4. I Just Say They are Both Insults Lol :P

  5. "geek" usually refers to the computer-y kind of person. "nerd" refers to someone who is smart but socially inept. If someone called me either of those names, I wouldn't really be insulted. But I think "dork" is still an insult.

  6. I think that both terms are used by the cool people to put down those people who are going to make a great deal more money in their lives.  The cool people end up working in car washes.

  7. I don't mind 'geek', 'nerd' or 'dork'.  Bright people tend not to use such terms.  Stupid people use the words to emphasise the differences between themselves and the object of their insult.  And that's fine by me.  It saves me having to talk to them and wasting valuable time.  Life is too short to care about what stupid people think, if they think at all.
