Gelita Castilo clinches Women’s Singles crown at the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza
Philippines’ Women’s Singles ace player, Gelita Castilo, clinched the Women’s Singles crown after defeating Ma. Bianca Ysabel Carlos in the final of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza event, in Davao City, on Wednesday, August 3.
The top seed, Castilo, proved her worth by playing to her maximum potential in the final match against Ysabel Carlos, who was the second seed in the event. Castilo finished-off the final battle in straight games by taking only 33 minutes and won the crown
in this third-leg of the national circuit.
The first game was a completely one-sided fight between the two seeded shuttlers of Philippines, as the top seed Castilo showed no respect to the second seed and reached at 11-4 until the one-minute break. Ysabel Carlos failed to play positive badminton
against the higher ranked opponent and was struggling to find her momentum.
After the interval, Castilo remained dominant in the game as she was hitting the bird aggressively, along with her attacking clears and powerful smashes. Ysabel Carlos tried to play a parallel game to tackle the aggression of her challenger, but failed to
deal with the pressure created by Castilo. The top seed earned the win in the opening set with a stunning score of 21-7, in just 14 minutes.
In the second game of the match, Ysabel Carlos played fast badminton in the start to cope up with the pace of her rival. She remained close to the top seed by playing attacking badminton, as she found the lines of the court while hitting powerful smashes.
Castilo geared up her speed after a few points in the second game and started to employ semi-smashes to force her opponent to leave the base line. The strategy worked well and she managed to take a lead of 11-8 in the first-half.
After the break, Castilo maintained the pace and stretched the lead by playing attacking badminton. She never lost her focus in the match and won the second game with a good margin of 21-14, in 19 minutes. This 33-minute title-match fight ended with a 21-7
and 21-14 score on the board.
