Philippines' Gelita Castilo got the better of Anaceli Gonzales by taming her in the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza, at Davao City, Philippines on Monday, August 1.
The top seeded Castilo proved that she truly deserves the top spot as she showed no mercy to Anaceli in the quarter-final match of the tournament, which is the third leg of National Circuit of Philippines. The top seed consumed only 20 minutes of court time
and thrashed her opponent in a completely one-sided straight-game fight.
The start of this Women’s Singles battle was quite surprising as the top seed started her winning run without facing any resistance at all. Anaceli was helpless against the terrific play of her opponent who kept the pace at the maximum level and showed no
sign of slowing down. Until the break, the top seed was far ahead of Anaceli, at 11-4.
After the interval, Castilo injected more speed in her strokes to maintain her lead and remained successful in building a huge pressure on her opponent, who was not matching the speed of the rallies in play. Castilo took the opening set advantage by winning
21-7, by taking just 11 minutes.
The second set of the match was almost similar as Anaceli showed no improvement in the match against the firing Castilo, who was playing on the highest level of her game. The top seed delivered a stunning performance in the second game by playing fast badminton.
Until the interval, she remained successful in establishing a gap of 11-2.
After the break, Castilo continued her easy run in the match by playing at the same speed. Her powerful strokes spared no room for her opponent to even put up a strong resistance. The top seed clinched the second set with a stunning 21-4 margin. This one-sided
match ended up with the result of 21-7 and 21-4 in just 20 minutes.
In the Women’s Singles semi-final, Castilo will take on Bianca Margareith Legaspi who defeated Ginalee Daymiel in the quarter-final of the tournament.
