Gem mining in North Carolina

i am gonna go gem mining and i would like to know if there was any good places in NC i could go???

  1. Not sure of an specific places but I heard that Emeralds are big in N.C.  please post any info that YOU learn.

    Arkansas is know for diamonds btw

A lot of the mining there was done a long time ago, and few mines remain active.  You will probably run into a bunch of tourist mines that import material from elsewhere, usually Brazil, and let you sort through it.  You may still want to do this, but bear in mind that the gems do not come from NC (and most of them are broken crystals unsuitable for gem or specimen use).

My wife and i are currently are in Hiddenite, NC, and have also been researching a lot of other places to go.  We went to the Hiddenite mine, and it wasnt that bad, we have found, emeralds, topaz, sapphire, amythest, and many more.  Looking at many of the places for mining, the only way you really get any gems is to purchase the buckets that they sell at these places.  Good luck.
