Gemologist set to go to Aqueduct for the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct
The unbeaten 3-year-old WinStar Farm owned colt, Gemologist, has been a star for trainer Todd Pletcher, and most likely to be right up there in challenging the likes of Hansen and Union Rags, who are expected to sweep the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, but before
going to Churchill Downs, Gemologist could meet one of the two protagonists, most likely Hansen in the Grade 1 Resorts World Casino New York City Wood Memorial on 7 April, 2012.
The Grade 1 Wood Memorial will be run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles over at Aqueduct’s race course, and currently the Grade 1 event has reeled in 10, 3-year-old colts and geldings.
The Kentucky bred, Gemologist is exiting a victory in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park, over a distance of 1 mile on 16 March, 2012, on dirt.
The race became all the more interesting when Currency Swap was pointed toward the race to make things a little uncomfortable for Gemologist. It was always going to be a tough duel between the two, but Gemologist emerged out of it as the victor.
He downed Currency Swap in second and Angel’s Tune in third, while covered 1 mile distance in 1 minute and 35.95 seconds.
Gemologist has gone undefeated in 4 career starts, 3 wins in his juvenile season and one in his sophomore season. However, his win in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club still remains as his best achievement of his career, thus far.
The son of Tiznow, out of mare Crystal Shard by Mr. Prospector, Gemologist is a strapping young colt according to his trainer Todd Pletcher, and his trainer wants him in action in three week’s time, rather four because Gemologist was also entered in the
Grade 1 Arkansas Derby set to go underway on 14 April, 2012, at Oaklawn Park.
Gemologist had no trouble winning his recent race, as he stiffed his neck and put in the long strides right after swinging off the far turn, just to keep any late challenges at bay, as he succeeded in doing that by a massive margin of seven lengths under
wraps with his ears pricked.
