Genaro Garcia: I am eyeing Abner Mares, Genesis Servania is just in my way - Boxing news
Genaro Garcia, the former WBC FECOMBOX super bantamweight champion, will take on the surging young undefeated Filipino proud, Genesis Servania, in a 12-round bout which will have the vacant WBC International Silver super bantamweight title up for grabs,
on June 2, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view and the ring for the event will be set up at Resorts World Hotel and Casino in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The showdown is being organised and promoted by Michael Aldeguer of ALA Promotions and will be
headlined by the WBO light flyweight championship bout between Donnie Nietes and Felipe Salguero.
Garcia, 34, recently participated at a pre-bout press conference and put forth the media his resolve to continue and elongate his newly constructed two-bout win streak. Genaro, a Mexican veteran pugilist, has a clear upper hand as far as the experience is
concerned.
Also known as the ‘Poblanito’, Garcia has been in a total 46 bouts and emerged victorious in 38. The orthodox brawler has collected a huge 22 wins by knocking the opponent out cold and has just broke his two-bout lose streak.
Moreover, Garcia is coming from a very significant and quite intimidating sixth-round knockout win over heavily experienced Genaro Camargo. During the media interaction, Garcia explicitly said that he will not give the undefeated young Filipino lad a chance
to even breathe.
Genaro stated, “He (Servania) won’t know how to handle my attacks, nobody can. I fought in Mexico City against very strong fighters, against very talented youngsters and I beat them all down. I’m motivated because I know that if I win, I will get a higher
ranking which will put me closer to what I want—a fight against Abner Mares.”
It is notable to mention that Servania, 20, has been in a total 17 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak. Furthermore, this is his very first career title bout and before that he has never been in one.
Also known as ‘Azucal’, Servania also possesses very minimal knockout proficiency as he has nailed just five opponents by knockout. The only two facets that might aid him during the bout is, one his wins over heavily experienced Gerson Guerrero and Nick
Otieno and second the home crowd and ring advantage.
At the moment the odds are in favour of the veteran Mexican who will strive hard to again shine in the limelight as according to Roberto Lopez, Garcia’s trainer, he is in an impressive shape.
Lopez stated, “I’ve never seen Genaro in such great shape. He’s motivated to come here to the Philippines to face an undefeated boxer, he’s very anxious to fight.”
The bout will be a classic one as Garcia just needs to pin the lad in order to grab the title whereas as far as Servania is concerned, he is taking on undoubtedly the toughest opponent of his career.
