What if they were to change this section into that would you be upset or just act like nothing happened?

  1. First I think you'd have to find more than a couple of men's studies programs to warrant a change-so someone knew what the heck it was. I only know of a couple of men's studies "programs" and they were not minor's or major's at accredited colleges or universities-they were a couple of classes or workshops. Whereas women's studies or gender studies or women and gender studies are majors and minors at hundreds of universities and colleges. There doesn't seem to be an interest among men and women in men's studies like there is in gender and/or women's studies. Facts are brutal sometimes.

If Yahoo changed the name of the forum I wouldn't care-but I'd wonder what Yahoo was thinking since the few who ask questions about men's studies in this forum usually get answers like "what are you talking about-there isn't anything called men's studies" or they get lots of comments about how they must be g*y or not too bright or mentally unbalanced..it's not pretty. The only ones who answer nicely are usually feminists who try to explain to the masses what men's studies is..there isn't exactly a huge following in YA.

  2. I think it should just be called Gender Studies.

  3. I tihnk it should be called gender studies too.

It wouldnt really make a difference, but the women bit kind of intimadates me, in the sense it makes me feel abit demeaned.

  4. Gender Studies would be just fine. About a year or so ago, it was just Women's Studies.

Any male Top Contributor here (take me for instance) is laughed at because of the title as it is. I've been insulted in a good number of answers because of it. Math is a section I like better than this, because my knowledge in Math is actually respected and accepted there. If it is just Gender Studies, then I (and many others) would get a whole lot more respect elsewhere in Yahoo! Answers.

  5. "Gender studies" would be neutral enough in my opinion.

  6. Its an excellent idea as long as it's 'in addition to' and not 'instead of'

the social construction of masculinity can be really  damaging to young blokes, to any men of any age really.  just as it is also damaging to women.

in many ways finding out about how the'privileged other' is constructed helps all of us

whether we are are trying to find out about racism, misogyny, age, sexuality, gender or class  inequalities

or the complex relationship between the lot.

  7. I could care less, because changing the name won't change the topics of discussion, or the mentality of those who post.

    Edit:

Please debakey, what is the feminist agenda? can you point me to a link that would support this idea?

  8. Yeah, I agree- It should just be called Gender Studies- no need to leave the men out.

  9. If the name of this forum were changed to Gender & Men's Studies, it would detract from the underlying inherent code of G&WS, i.e. (Misandry & Methods in the Eradication/ Emasculation of Males Via Any Means Possible).  This would not bode well with the RADICAL FEMINISTS.

Please remember that the FEMINIST agenda is paramount and that any attempt at suggesting otherwise may be offencive to RADICAL FEMINISTS.
