Gender of parakeet?

Question

My parakeet is weird. On the part that is either supposed to be blue or pink is on the top pink and on the bottom blue. I dont know any other way to tell what gender my parakeet it is. I know if it is a girl it will be either brown or pink and if its a boy the thing above its beak will be blue. Its very strange. Is there another way to find the gender of my bird? Thanks!

I think and know for a fact that if your parakeet's cere is not navy blue then you have a female for sure no matter how pink or tinted blue  or brown her cere looks, a male will have a definate navy blue cere and you will know this for a fact upon viewing him.

Sure, just google Avian DNA sexing and you can buy this kit- type thing ($19- $23) where you take a sample of your bird's blood or feather and send it back, then in about five days, they send you back a paper saying if your bird is male or female. Best of luck!! (Hope this helped.) :-)

i've heard there is a place you can send in one your bird's feathers and they will tell you what gender it is.

Hello.

Yes, if the cere ( above the beak ) is blue , then it is a boy ( dark blue is older male , light blue is younger male ) If it is pink is a young female and if it is look like purple ...then it is older female . Another way you can tell is by 4 _ 6 months , the young female would lay infertile eggs and male does not . TM.

How old is your parakeet?  My parakeet is a year and 6 months old and I'm almost sure my budgie is a boy.  It hasn't fully gotten to a darkish color on it's cere until just a few months ago. Most birds from petco or petsmart or from any other pet store are mostly boy parakeets because they use the girls to bred more parakeets and don't sell them often.
