  1. I think that advertising is smart when they use a male celebrity that a lot of women are obsessed with to advertise a product marketed towards women, and when they use a women that men think of as hot to advertise a product marketed to men. It's all about the dominant-buying gender of the product being advertised.

  2. How men and women are portrayed in marketing and advertising. My favorite example is an AT&T commercial where the mom starts nagging her husband, in the most god-awful whiny screech, about throwing his roll over minutes when he spills milk on them. The husband then proceeds to make childish and snarky comments to her, while their teenage sons giggle along with him.

The commercial portrays women to be nagging, whiny, and domineering while portraying men to be childish, unintelligent, and disrespectful.

  3. I agree, looking at gender roles in advertising could be very interesting. Most adverts are very sexist towards women. Often on scantily clad "goddess" like women are used in ads turning them into s*x objects whereas the same is not done to men. Also women are always portrayed as mothers looking after kids in ads, or domestic goddesses who can cook perfect meals, have a clean house and look amazing. Another view - products advertised to women: food, appliances, weight loss. Look at why this is when men are supposed to be taking on more domestic responsibility. And cars are seldom aimed at women - why? Aren't we supposed to want these luxury cars? Email me a copy when you are done - it should be fascinating! You can also email if you want some ideas.

  4. why some lead male characters are slow and stupid because they are male but the only way lead women characters can be stupid is they are stereotypes blonds or trailer trash

Simpsons (bart and homer and ralph)

    Family guy (peter and chris)

    that 70s show (calso)

two and a half men (jack)

    etc
