Gene Smith or Mike Mularkey: Jacksonville Jaguars’ Shahid Khan says no change – NFL News
Pakistan-born American business tycoon and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan has so far received bitter taste of trying his hands on the American professional football but in spite of poor doing by his franchise he has refused to panic at this juncture
of the season, saying he will ponder upon all crucial decisions including prospects of general manager Gene Smith and coach Mularkey at the end of the season.
Khan strongly defended the team that has a miserable record of 1-7 and almost all analysts agree that unless the team stages a miraculous turnaround in the remaining games of the season the jobs of Smith and Mularkey are on the line.
Smith is particularly more exposed given he has been in charge of all the team’s decision since 2009 and the team has never ended a season on a respectable note under his reign.
The Jags’ owner also defended the quality of payout in the league. He proudly mentioned the Jags were the sixth best team in payouts to their players and have recently hired quite a few new players.
Apparently, he dodged question about taking any decision about top officials of the team at this time of the season but he certainly can weigh them considering the quality of talent the manager and coach have put on the field.
It is significant to note here that quarterback Blaine Gabbert has again become a controversial entity in the media and fans’ debate as much as he was last season. All sides are surprised with the Jags’ decision to stick with Blaine in spite of his consistent
failings as an offence leader.
Fans have also started raising questions about general manager Gene Smith. The man is in charge since 2009 and has not done anything significant. The Jags are in consistent bad form, no matter how many changes they introduce at different positions. It is
to be seen what changes the apparently calm Shahid Khan brings in when the season ends.
