  1. WOW- what a matchup! The 'original Ali' vs. well, the other 'original Ali'. I can't even begin to pick a winner. I'd sure pick a good seat though.

  2. I am one of the few who think Tunney was overrated and Walcott was underatted.  I know I am going to catch a lot of flak for this one, but I say Joe Walcott catches Tunney and KOs Gene in 8.

  3. Gene would never mix it up with Joe.  He would run, run, run and remain a step ahead of Walcott in a rather boring fight.  Walcott would catch Tunney during the course of the fight.   He would attempt to make Gene FIGHT.

Joe would score a knockdown and come close to stopping Gene.  Tunney would know before the first bell that he can't mix it up with Walcott.  Joe had the moves but he was better in retreat mode than aggressor.  Gene would just be a step ahead and win a close but unexciting decision.

  4. They are both great boxers but Jersey Joe Walcott is a better puncher. Jersey Joe outbox Joe Louis in their first meeting, he also beat Ezzard Charles who was a great boxer. I think Gene Tunney vs Jersey Joe Walcott will be just like Ezzard Charles vs Jersey Joe Walcott. It could go either way. Another very close match up.

  5. Gene Tunney would run out of "gas" after a while and Walcott would not. I see this going 15 rounds and a split decision win for Walcott

  6. i would put tunney about number 6 on my all time heavyweight list, so i pick gene to outbox joe for a unanimous decision win.

  7. Man do u ask tough ones.lol.

Both are very underrated champions and Tunney is remembered more for the Dempsey fights than his skill as a boxer who's only loss was to the great Harry Greb. Tunney had underrated power and a superb defense. Excellent jab and a solid chin

Jersey Joe Walcott got better with age, he knocked Joe Louis down twice b4 losing a split decision in a fight many thought he won. He knocked out Ezzard Charles for the title and will be best remembered for knocking Rocky Marciano down in the first round and leading on the scorecards b4 being kayoed by one of the most famous punches in boxing history.

This one would be a chess match with Tunney using his speed and footwork to win a wide decision.

    Great match up as always.

  8. Tunney, definitely.

He would know he had absolutely nothing to fear from Walcott. If Dempsey couldn't sink Tunney - well, hardly anybody could've. And they didn't. More than 80 fights, NEVER knocked out, only lost once.

I do believe the fight would last all 15, though - and it probably wouldn't be completely one-sided either, but Gene's superhuman stamina would win out in the end, landing him the last 3-5 rounds clearly and giving him a comfortable win.
