  1. Before Gene Upshaw, retired players got nothing.  At least under him they started to get some money and medical care.  So him being there was a good thing.

However, he was right in saying that he didn't represent them but the active players.  Maybe he could have found a better way to put it though.

  2. i don't think anybody dying is a good thing, even if he was a "jerk" as you say, you don't just want him to drop dead. everyone who dies has a family  and friends, so just feel sorry toward his family and not toward the other players he was mean to

  3. First of all, how dare you call Upshaw a jerk. The man did more for the players than anybody in the national footballs history. As far  as pensions go, it's like this. My father work all his life and received a pension when he retired. I will receive a pension when i retire also. But my pension will double my fathers because of a higher pay scale than my fathers. Otherwise, it's what you put in to the pension fund, and older players didn't put in that much back in the day. But Upshaw changed all of that for the new players, they make way more money than they did 30 to 20 years ago. Get the facts right before you post such garbage.

  4. It could be a good thing for some of the retired players that need money and med. help.
