  1. I use Brother's Keeper, it is shareware so you can try out the full program before you buy it, and it is inexpensive.  I would recommend it every time!

  2. I use Family Tree Maker 2006 - it's a good program.

  3. I use Roots Magic ($29). I recommend it, too.

Years ago I had Family Origins 6.0 (Roots Magic's predecessor) and FTM 5.0 both, and liked FO much better.

In its defense, Family Tree Maker is the market leader. It costs $39 and up, depending on how many extras you get bundled with it. The Gold version comes with a 3 or 6 months subscription to Ancestry's International package, the last time I looked.

PAF, from the Mormons is free.

If you have a Mac, Reunion ($79) is your only choice.

You can Google "Genealogy Software comparison" and see parallel reviews.
