  1. Meh.  Nothing wrong with Gene modified food.  They do it to make them bigger, sweeter, or so that they can last longer on the shelf.  They also do it so they food can survive things it would not be able to normally.  Gene modification may be the only thing to save the banana.  Prior to 1960  most bananas on the market were the Gros Michel.  These were bigger, sweeter and just looked better than today's bananas. Panama Wilt (a soil fungus) that pretty much cleared these bananas out.  The Cavendish banana is the one you will find in the market today as it was resistant to the fungus.  However the fungus seems to have jumped species and is hurting the cavendish.  Before long this one could be killed off as well.  Genetic modification may be the only thing to save the banana.  Imagine 20-30 years from now no bananas.

Ill take the genetic mods thank you.

  2. foods that have their genes modified to make it bigger/smaller, better tasting (usually worse), more nutritional or diffrent color and so on, i personally would not want to eat genectically modified foods since its not right to change food like that, i would prefer all natural untouched fresh veggies and fruits

  3. yeah...what about them?

  4. Don't eat them.  Actually, they are hard to avoid because companies like Monsanto have lobbied so that it is unlikely you will be able to find any foods labelled "GMO free" at the supermarket (though Rumford does make a GMO free cornstarch).

Try reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma"  or "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" for some info on why we feel we have to tinker with nature.

If you buy food at a grocery store (vs. growing your own) or eat out, you are probably consuming GMO a lot of the time anyway.

I have also read that they are planning to assimilate vaccines into the banana genome, so we can get our vaccines along with our gmo bananas.  I never liked bananas anyway.
