General Manager Mike Rizzo takes a swipe at Cole Hamels for Bryce Harper incident - MLB Update
While rest of the Washington Nationals’ camp remained silent, General Manager Mike Rizzo launched a verbal attack on Cole Hamels after what he did with Bryce Harper in the game.
Dubbing him as “fake tough”, he believes, such dirty tactics have no place in the baseball and therefore he must be sentenced hardest of the punishments.
Rizzo proud fully praised Bryce Harper and stated that Hamels will commit a fatal mistake by taking him for granted. He has all what it takes to rough-up the best of the aces, he explained.
In his years in baseball, none of the pitchers Rizzo has come across, has resorted to such ways for combating rookies. While this is so, Hamels believes otherwise. He contends, classic baseball has had such things as its part and parcel and he did this just
to invoke that era.
"I've never seen a more classless, gutless chicken (bleep) act in my 30 years in baseball," Rizzo said. "With all the bounty (stuff) going on in professional football, the commissioner better act with a purpose on this thing."
Hamels discusses his initial days in the Majors and how he had to suffer due to shorter space of strike-zones.
Almost similar kind of treatment he had gone through back then, therefore, just to make sure every guy experiences the same, as Hamels threw the fastball at Harper.
Harper is turning out an instant hero and anything done to budge him from his present flow in the season will meet fierce denouncement. For fans, that attempt can easily mean a physical attack on him and a plan for his injury before he unleashes his prodigy
further in the season.
Since criticism has come from top management of the Nationals, it will send clear message to rest of the starters. Next time, one will think twice before entertaining malicious thoughts against Harper.
Harper promises so much for his side and his consistent performances on the plate can take them to heights of success this year.
Finding him injured or missing out few games for any reason is the last thing the Nationals will want. It is no surprise then that the club reacted to the incident immediately and called for action.
