General Manager Terry Ryan is convinced that Justin Morneau is making progress – MLB Twins Update
Justin Morneau is one of the best hitters in the game right now. Over the years, he achieved staggering results as a first baseman. However, in the past few seasons, he has suffered from concussions and wrist injury problems.
Batting with a great .345 average with 18 home-runs and 56 RBI’s, the 30-year-old striker was having a career best season in 2010 but in July, he took a blow to his head from John McDonald (Toronto Blue Jays’ shortstop), which forced him out of the game.
The problems continued for him off the field as he was hurt driving for a hard grounder. Looking to get back into the Majors, the guy went through several wrist, knee and foot surgeries during the off season. Morneau is a very down to earth person and his love for the game is what keeps him going even in the most difficult of times.
The Twins' first baseman is expected to be ready for the spring training season starting in less than a couple of months time. He is currently participating in different baseball activities.
However, until he starts swinging the bat, he will not be sure if he has fully recovered from the latest concussions. Twins’ general manager, Terry Ryan seems very optimistic about Morneau’s health and fitness and he believes that the first baseman is making significant progress.
"He's doing OK in my book," Ryan said. "He's been in the ballpark here this past week every morning, and he's working hard. He's on about the right schedule. He'll start to swing a bat here in probably another 10 days to two weeks. I wouldn't get too concerned about exactly what came out of that article. I think he just stated what exactly is going on and the history of it, and he's trying to move forward.”
Twins, on the other hand, will be very concerned about Morneau’s recovery as he has the ability to lead them to the American League Central title on his own. However, it will not be wrong to say that, staying healthy and fit for the entire season will be a huge challenge for Morneau.
