General Manager of Philadelphia Flyers Paul Holmgren makes an interesting offer sheet for Shea Weber
Darren Dregen of TSN had broken out news late Wednesday night, on his twitter account that Philadelphia Flyers have made a very massive offer for Shea Weber, which is more than $100 million for 14 years.
But now an even more interesting offer sheet has come out from Paul Holmgren, general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Paul Holmgren, who is already known for making such bold and interesting decisions, has yet again come up with another daring move.
He has been taking fearless decisions since his first day as General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers as he removed the Stanley Cup winning coach, Ken Hitchcock, and replaced him with John Stevens, who had a first year as NHL assistant.
After taking over the general manager’s role, he also sent Philadelphia’s, then captain, Peter Forsberg to the Nashville Predators for Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent and a first-round pick.
Like he did right now, former Minnesota Fighting Saints, Philadelphia Stars and Minnesota North Stars player, has never hesitated go to for big players, trade his captains (which he did twice), removing coaches (which he did twice) etc.
After retiring, Holmgren immediately moved into coaching and became assistant coach of Flyers under Mike Keenan. He had become first Ex-Philadelphia player in 1987-1988 season to become head coach of the team, after Keenan got fired. Though, he himself got
fired after four seasons.
St. Paul, Minnesota born, former right winger became assistant general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers in 1998-1999 and kept that post for eight years and a month under, then general manager, Bob Clarke and replaced him in 2006 when Clarke got fired.
He has not yet won Stanley Cup since then but when it comes to trades, he is the one of the most aggressive ones. Like his latest offer sheet to bring Nashville Predators’ defenseman, Shea Weber to his team. The financial terms of the offer sheet is mentioned
below.
First 4 years of contract: $1 million salary with a $13 million signing bonus per season.
Years 5-6 of contract: $4 million salary with an $8 million signing bonus per season.
Years 7-10: $6 million salary. Year 11: $3 million salary. Years 12-14: $1 million salary.
