Question:

General Prices in Barbados?

Hello,

I will be living in Barbados for a few months. I've heard that it is expensive compared to the US or even other Caribbean islands, how true is this?

Could you assist by giving me an idea of the prices (in Barbados dollars) of some general items, for example:

Bread (one loaf)

Orange Juice (one gallon)

Flour

Sugar

Rice

Breakfast Cereal

Whole Chicken

Tinned foods, such as Spam/Corned Beef

Fruits (such as apples, oranges, bananas, pears, grapes)

Local Newspaper

Bus Ticket

Taxi Fare

and anything else you can think of......

Are there any items that are particularly expensive that I should consider taking with me? Apart from clothing and books.

Thank you for your assistance!

  2. A good guage would be to multiply everything by three. Good example is a 16 ounce coke cost $1US and a KFC snack box cost US 7.50 .

Because of the strength of the pound sterling and the Euro you will have great spending power. The Barbados dollar is worth 50 cents US.

Bus Fare is cheaper than in the US at a rate of 75 cents US to anywhere on the island.

bus fare is actually very reasonable for the past like 20 or more years it has been $1.50(us 75c) for wherever you want to go(along the route of course)

in terms of zrs their are 19 different routes

they are also half hourly buses to the major towns and other locations w'in the countryside

fruits are VERY reasonable at trimart supermarket(not the one i listed above) an so are vegetables for e.g. 2 apples for 99c(approx 49c usd)
