  1. i worked in OB/GYN for research... OB/GYN is not all about deliveries.  It's about taking a whole bunch of feminine cases.

There is a lot of work involved in this area.

BUT i would have to say a general surgeon has a harder workload than a gynae.  Surgeon's have to deal with more than one area.. and they don't have  9 - 5 office hours.

  2. In terms of lifestyle these are about as bad as they get, pick your poison wisely; choose the one you enjoy most, lifestyle will be terrible either way (unless you pursue fertility medicine via OB/Gyn).

  3. Probably both, the surgeon tries to save a life, the OB helps bring a life into the world. They are both on call regardless of the time or day and have to stay calm  for all parties involved.

  4. That's a tossup, and would depend on the practice situation you ended up in.  They both go without sleep fairly regularly, and work way too many hours.

Small hospital, small practice with either would be worse than a larger group, which would have more bodies to share the call.

  5. well depends on who your asking.

i want to be an ob/gyn which i believe is better than a surgeon.

i believe that a surgeon gets payed better but its really based on what you like.

a surgeon is saving someone possibly and a ob/gyn does alot of baby delivery's and things to that nature which i believe is any easier lifestyle.

work load is deff. horrible you get payed good but you are on call alot of times but owning your own office is also very good
