General Surgeon or Orthopedic Surgeon???

Which one would you pick to become and why? Tell me the pros and cons.

  1. its realy issue of your interest & what do you like to be no one should pick for you its your job


  2. If you're not in your third year of medical school, it's a moot point, as you cannot possibly know what the job entails until you do it.  You have to do what fascinates you.

    If you like dealing with bellies, which involves bowels and p**p a fair bit, then general surgery might be your thing.

    We joke that orthopedic surgeons are just big and strong and dumb and like to use power tools.  If that stereotype fits you, maybe you'd be happy there.

    I thought about ortho, because I am fascinated by hands and would enjoy cutting and sewing them all day.  I didn't fit in with the ortho crowd, though, so I jumped to the other side of the drapes where I could hang with my geeky anesthesia pals.

    You don't choose a specialty so much as find where you fit in.  And that's what you do.

  3. i feel like ortho is looked down upon by other specialties... since orthopedists are often not dealing with life or death.
