Question:

General consensus on teenagers committing violent crimes?

I am in my mid 20's and just wonder if most people believe that teenage violence in society will get better or worse? School shootings for example or children murdering their parents and there doesn't seem to be a clear motive (not that a motive would make it ok).

I myself would be afraid to say anything to a group of teenagers if I saw them doing something illegal, not that long ago I was a teenager and would not dream of cursing at an adult nevermind physically attacking one.

I would especially like a teen perspective on this, thanks.

  1. I agree what we see reported is shocking - but, then I wander around where I live (Midlands, UK) and never feel threatened or alarmed .  Yes, I see hoodies, and boisterous behaviour and alarmingly young couples (barely out of school) pushing a pushchair - but when I was a teenager, adults used to worry about Teddy Boys and bennies (benzedrine?pills).

In the days of sedan chairs - young gents would razz the carriers and tip their passengers out, and also 'just for fun' drive a sword through the walls.   So, it's the same old, same old thing.

One major difference is - the media.  In the past there were reports in newspapers about such things, but now the media tries to alarm old ladies like me with 'shock, horror'

  2. they're gonna get worse.

tv and the internet glorify such.

and some young minds don't yet have the ability to reject that.
