Question:

General cost of a wedding planner for a non-traditional wedding?

I'm trying to plan a wedding myself, but I could use some assistance from a professional. The wedding is outside, no church officials involved, on the family's private beach, and is where the reception will be held - so the venue costs no money. What do you suppose the ballpark cost of a wedding planner's partial planning will be for such an event? Are there planners who offer estimations on their websites?

  1. It all depends on our location and how the planner charges.  some charge hourly or a la carte for certain things.

I tend to charge ona  percentage of the cost of the wedding with additional items as needed.  Whatever amkes the most since.

  2. I work as a bridal consultant in a bridal store, so while I'm not a planner, I see lots of them.  MOST planners anymore do have packages where you can pick and choose from the services they offer, and most will put this information on their website.  I've seen planners offer anything from day of service, where they coordinate with vendors and troubleshoot any and all issues with vendors, to full, all out planning of everything, right down to the last napkin.  As to giving you a ballpark estimate, that's going to be tough.  There are so many factors to consider, where you live, the experience the planner you're considering has, and what exactly you're wanting the planner to do for you.  I would just start looking on line, for planners in the city where your wedding will be held, and see what you find.  The choice of a wedding planner/coordinator is such a personal one, it's not about finding the least expensive person, it's finding the person who gets "your" vision of your wedding day.  If you have friends who have recently married, you might start off by asking them if they used someone, and if so, who, and would they recommend that person.

    Good luck!
