  1. Drive the speed limit, like there is a glass of water on your dash, the amount you save will amaze you.

  2. general answer....walk, sweaters, stay put

  3. avoid jackrabbit starts you only get to the next red light first, drive the speed limit, use your cruise control when on the highway, check and keep tire pressure at tires recommended pressure, avoid idling the car at the coffee shop or bank your going to be more than 5 minutes, oil changes every 5000 km,and change filters every 10000 km,tune ups as recommended by manufacturer,if the corner store in close walk instead drive ,take bus or subway to work leave car at home

  4. All of the above plus...

Don't let your tank get empty, fill up when it is half empty--The amount of fuel lost though evaporation is HUGE.  Refineries have floating lids on their storage tanks to limit the amount of space available for evaporation.

I calculated my mileage and my car got 24mpg when I filled up at half way and only 17 when I waited until it was near empty!

  5. The three links below are some of the most often cited when the topic of getting the most from your car when it comes to mileage.

This ranges from not only general up keep, but regularly checking your filters (air most importantly), not running your a/c as much, keeping an eye on your tire pressure, etc.

There are some websites emerging that go into "hyper-miling", which is adopting driving practices like extensive coasting, rolling to stops, and other driver oriented tactics.  Few of these are safe and only slightly add to improved mileage.

  6. Keep your tire pressure at the recommended amount. Drive 55 on the freeways even if you feel like doing 65. Change your air filter and fuel filter when recommended instead of when its clogged. Buy a more fuel efficient car. Walk or bike for your short-trip errands.

  7. keep the engine rev's as low as possible.

the more you gun the motor, the more fuel you waste per second
