  1. The triangle area of the back of the head between the ears to the base of the spine has always been off limits since the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided this rule after Zuffa took over the UFC.  I personally don't think that this rule should be toyed with what so ever.  The back of the head is a very dangerous place to be struct and even more so when in competition with the punches flying left and right.

Even amateur event promoters adopted these rules set forth by the Nevada Athletic Commission because these rules are in place to protect the fighters in the cage.

This is all the more fuel for my fire to keep my team out of sports MMA altogether....what a shame man.

  2. can you outline the rules for us?

  3. Who the heck cares !

  4. the things that made the fights so compelling when the Gracies started it was the open weight nature of it.

However, because it was maligned by the authorities, and a smear campaign by beer companies with interestes in boxing damaged its reputation, MMA was forced to conform to state boxing commission laws, and create weight classes because without them, it is not a sport, but "underground" fighting, which is against the law.

Regarding the whole weight class thing, personally I have always thought judging fighters by weight has been a huge, huge mistake.  Fighters should be judged and categorized as much by weight, as body composition.  An example I want to cite, is Mark Kerr against that "former special forces" fighter.  Mark Kerr, at 6'2 and 240 lbs was it?  Was a walking mountain of muscle.  He fights an ex army rangers, or some other spec ops unit, with a huge fat gut weighing in at 260 lbs, standing at around 5'11.  Naturally the what looked like 5% bodyfat Kerr, murdered him.

Hey, if they are making it so that you have to be at 7% fat to fight, or below 10%, I'm all for it.  We do not need more Tank Abbot's or Ferrozo's in there.  I'm sorry but, even though I am not an MMA fan, as a favor to MMA fans, what would you guys rather see, skill, or a fat tub of lard smothering people with his blubber?

I suppose a ton of blubber is a thing to fear but come on man...

    Hope that helps.
