I am thinking about taking a general psychology class this year. Can anyone who took it before tell me how it was? What it was about, etc.

  1. By "general" I am assuming you mean an intro class, if that is the case then parts of it can be a little long-winded since you will not be interested in everything that is covered, so after taking a the first two intro psychology classes, students tend to get an idea about what they wish to focus on and what interest them and then look for those types of classes in their high-division of studies.

Intro classes tend to cover: the scientific study of behavior, including an overview of the biological basis of behavior, sensation or perception, states of consciousness, learning and memory, thinking and language, intelligence, motivation and emotion.

  2. An intro college level psych class is a survey of all the subjects within psychology.  You usually start off by going over the history of psychology, biological aspects of psych, then go into specific areas.  These would include social, personality, developmental, abnormal, etc.  It is not in-depth in any of the studies due to the enormity of topics.

Grading is usually through exams and a research paper. There may be other short assignments as well.
