Question:

General questions about 9mm Springfield XD?

I live in AZ and I plan on ordering an XD soon. I'm trying to find the best price for the handgun I want. Does anyone know the price and /or model number for a 9mm XD 4 inch barrel, black frame with stainless steel slide, 16+1, with trijicon night sights?

Also, is the option of a ported barrel available on this firearm?

And when you order the night sights, can/ do you get the regular 3 dot sights as well?

What kind of holster comes with it?

About how many rounds does it take to break this gun in?

  1. Ok the price for that gun varies on where you buy it.  The 9mm goes for about 400 bucks generally speaking, and the night sights are something that you have to send to Springfields custom shop to get done.  There is no set model number to speak of with the XD you are looking for, you just tell the gun dealer what you want and they look up that particular XD in a catalog and order it.  it goes by what you just described not so much a model number.  My old XD is called an XD 40, yours is just plainly called the XD 9.  I just bought the new XDm and they said it was going to run me about 200 bucks to get the night sights installed and it would be about a 14 day turn around time.  You can most likely keep the factory sights, but I dont know why you would want them as the trijicons are soo much better.  I bet Springfield will send the old ones back in a little bag when they send your pistol slide back.  They do not offer the XD line ported from the factory that I have seen and I bought my first XD in 2004.  Now, even the new XDm isnt ported.  I did talk to Springfield about this and they said it was a costly upgrade, about 600 bucks and a 12 to 14 week turn around to port the handgun.  The holster the XD comes with is an adjustable tension paddle holster made of molded plastic (almost identical to the Fobus line of holsters).  they also come with a magazine holster also adjustable tension and molded plastic, and speed loader.  I usually cycle about 500 rounds in my pistols to consider them "broke in" but some will tell you 1000 rounds and others will say more.

  2. I love my Springfield Armory XDs.

Prices, like your first answerer said, do vary. I paid a little under 570 including tax for my 9mm Service model. My state is a little high because, well it is IL but you could pay about the same esppecually if you have those night sights, but most likely a little less.

As for the ported model....That is the 9mm I have and I love it. It raised the shooting bar for me. It would not be the one I choose first for in home defense, but because of the low recoil, I am a much better shooter with my other handguns. Very LOW recoil. And yes they still produce the ported models and I could not find a after market porting service via Springfield.

I am not sure about night sight orders and if you get the ported model, you would want to stick with the sights the gun comes with. They get pretty dirty.

The holster the handgun comes with is a great starter holster. It is like a Fobus belt holster. I bought a BlackHawk CQC holster with serpa lock...50 bucks and I love it.

I usually break my weapon in with about 50 rounds of Fiocchi FMJs. They have a little more pop and I would do 50 rounds of that and then another 100 with winchester or cci 9mm. Walmart has both of those and the Fiocchi you can buy at a gun shop. If for some reason your gun does not cycle regular ammo after the Fiocchi, do another box of them.

I do not trust a gun or use it for home defense until at least 1000 rounds go through flawlessly. That is my break in period. By trust I mean to use in a sticky situation.
