Essentially, it's a better Newton Theory of Gravity. Newton still works for most calculations but if you really want accuracy, Ya need to use General Field.

Special Relativity suggested some new ideas and General Theory married them to what Newton and others observed such as space-time and warped space and it effect on gravitational radiation. All the testable and observable predictions of both Special and General Relativity have been observed and verified.

The predictions issued with the original postulation are what makes a postulation a theory, assuming that the predictions are found valid.. This is also why creationism has never been and will never be...a theory!
