Generalization essay topics??

I have to state a generalization (a main idea or thesis) and then support it with facts, examples, reasons and anecdotes. The example in my textbook is about women in the Civil War. The instruction says I should choose a broad topic and then narrow it down to a more limited one. It has to be something a lot of people would agree with. I just can't think of any idea. Can anyone please help me!!

I guess first off try something you are familiar with. For example, Kids at my high school or Pressures of school and family. That sort of thing. Hope that helps.
