  1. What Gave You That Idea..

Their Lenses Are Of The Same Quality...

    And Cost Around The Same

Nikon lenses can be a little more expensive sometimes though, but canon isn't ' more ' expensive than nikkor lenses, they are equally expensive.

    Here is an example :

    The 50mm f/1.8 Lens.

Each main manufacturer makes them for the DSLR, nikon, canon, sony, olympus, and so forth.

    The canon EF 50mm f/1.8 Lens               88$

    The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Lens                     117$

See, they are very similar in price, and the quality is the same, they are identical in quality, they just look a little different in person because of the emblems of the manufacturers. But no, canon lenses are not more expensive the nikon lenses, and nikon lenses aren't ( usually ) any more then canon lenses.

If i had to say, i'd agree with fotoace, in most cases, nikkor is more expensive the canon lenses. But, i wouldn't imagine canon lenses aren't of equal quality.

  2. No.  Not all their lenses match up 1:1 in any case.

Generally if the lenses have the same focal length and f/stop and are similar in design they are close (within 25%) to the same cost.

For example, both Nikon and Canon make a 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens with a very quick and quiet focusing motor and that use low dispersion glass (Nikon calls theirs AF-S, ED; $1,699.95 and Canon calls theirs USM, L; $1,190.00) so you see that assumption is not always true.

    Nikon 60 mm f/2.8 AF-S macro, $489.95

Canon 60 mm f/2.8 USM macro, $370.00 (but it is a EF-S lens that only works on the 1.6x sensored cameras)

Canon makes a 50 mm f/2.5 EF macro for their other cameras, $250

    For sports:

    Nikon 400mm f/2.8 AF-S VR $8,149.95

    Canon 400 mm f/2.8 USM IS $6,800.00

    Ultra-wide angle lenses

    Nikon DX 12-24 mm f/4.0, $919.95

    Canon EF-S 10-22 mm f/3.5-4.5, $710.00

So in these cases Nikon lenses cost more.  You will have to look for yourself when it comes to other focal lengths.
