I encounter a lot of senseless jingoism with regards to the war in Iraq. Is it the same in Canada?

  1. We are in favour of combating terrorists.

We deplore what has been done to Iraq, and we don't like big countries who invade small ones.

  2. I can't speak for Canada as a whole, but personally, I don't support war.

  3. You mean the war on other countries having what American politicians want, right??? Terrorism, fine......how is it that the self proclaimed greatest military power in the world can't find a guy hiding in a cave or these supposed weapons of mass destruction that are obviously not disguised as the oil fields they so diligently guard??? America better wake up, before they exhaust their resources, and a disgruntled country they've pissed off with their aggressive foreign policies decides to invade them for crimes against humanity............perhaps a new gov't will be a step in the right direction......

  4. I have no issues with go after organizations that try and harm innocent people. However invading IRAQ had nothing to do with the War on Terror. I also think the War on Terror should focus a bit internally. IE d**k Cheney and the other Rich, greedy b******s that are profitting big it on American and other nationals deaths.

  5. Well, I can't speak for every Canadian, so I can only tell you what I see from my eyes.

The terrorists were mainly located in Afghanistan with ties to Saudi Arabia. After Sept-11, Canadians joined our American neighbours in denouncing the attacks and joining with you to fight Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, to try and find Bin Laden, and to bring those responsible to justice.

We also felt it was important that the people of the country view us not as invaders, but as someone who can help them make a difference.

Of course, Afghanistan is a pretty desolate area with very little economic value to any other country. Now, seven years later, Canadians (and the UN) are still fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and helping to stabilize the economy, while USA went to find terrorists in Iraq based on dubious facts.

So we are fully supportive of our troops, and feel they are doing an important job, but we want to make sure that they are deployed in areas where sending in troops was absolutely necessary for protecting Canada, or to help another country in need on humanitarian grounds, not for economic reasons. No profit margin is worth a young soldier's life.
