Question:

Generating high voltage from mains line

Hi,

For my high voltage project (10kv-30kvolts) I have tried to generate the high V using a 6 volts lead acid battery supply, flyback transformer & driver and a CW voltage multiplier.

Now, I'd like to explore a better option (without the batteries and expensive power supply units) to create a high-V source by using the household mains line. Anyone have good recommendations on this?

Thanks mates!

  1. Buy a high voltage transformer, primary 120 (or 240) volts and secondary up in the 10kV to 30kV area.

You can find neon sign transformers that go up to 15 kV for a few dollars.
