Question:

Genes and physical appearance ?

I have a friend who is from Quebec. Her grandmother is Japanese (ethnic-not just a citizen) and her grandfather is a British-Canadian. Her mother is 1/2 Japanese and her father is French. My friend, got married to a French Canadian man and they are getting ready to have children.

When in a conversation with my friend, she proudly told me that her kids will have "full blood Japanese appearance---and have traditional Japanese features ( East Asian eyes, threaded black hair, and East Asian complexion). My friend has "traditional Japanese features " too. And she said that Japanese features, like all East Asian features (Chinese, Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, N and S Korea, etc..) never change. As in, all a person needs is a drop of East Asian genes to look completely East Asian for many generations. I wonder if this is true? Does anyone know?

This is very interesting to me.

And what genes create an East Asian phenotype vs. a European phenotype?

  1. that sounds a little far fetched since her kids will only be about an eighth Japanese

  2. I think your friend would know her own people more than we would. If she says her kids will look "traditional Japanese" then they will. I have seen black women from West Africa, who marry English men and have babies. And the kids all look West African, with an occasional change in eye color or hair color. If certain traits were not dominant and could be easily blended out of existence then why are African American populations who have lived in the US, since slavery, still black? Wouldn't they all look like the Irish and Scottish people that lived in the US. Why are there still black people in the United States, even though most African Americans only have 25%-30% or so African dna, when they take  dna tests.

When my family came over from Ethiopia, they were shocked to see how diverse Americans looked.... and I am not only talking  about immigrants. Some traits do stick around for ages.

  3. Totally not true. I think it varies. I know alot of East Asians who are 1/2 Caucasian and 1/2 Asian, and they completely look Caucasian even though they speak Asian languages.

He's my friend's little brother. Mostly Asian blood (Vietnamese). His great grandfather was Caucasian. And look he has BLUE eyes. So not true at all. It really depends on who's genes are dominant.

  4. When you're dealing with this matter, get help from a  professional. People on here can't give you a good answer.

  5. She doesn't know what she is talking about.  They may have some Japanese features but more likely they will look more like French.
