genesis 3:14-15 says:

14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,

"Cursed are you above all the livestock

and all the wild animals!

You will crawl on your belly

and you will eat dust

all the days of your life.

15 And I will put enmity

between you and the woman,

and between your offspring [a] and hers;

he will crush [b] your head,

and you will strike his heel."

am i the only one who, after reading this passage, doesn't see it as a prophecy, but in stead just a explanation of why snakes bite people?

  1. Yes, you are the only ONE.

  2. No, there are others, stupid is stupid does.

  3. LOL at cursed above all livestock. Who curses livestock?

  4. Either way, it is still a prophecy. It is either a prophecy that the offspring of the woman will crush snakes' heads, or Satan's head.

If you don't believe the Bible, then what's the point of asking this question? It seems a little irrelevant.

  5. I TOTALLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.

I'll bet that is why they are so creepy too! I would never ever have a pet snake!

And it makes sense that people who try to be all tough have a snake tattoo.

For example: "The Simpsons" has a bad guy character naked snake! and my favorite ironic quote from him is "Alright! Good bye student loan!" (ironically, as he's robbing Moe's cash register)

  6. I'm curious why it doesn't mention taking away their power of speech.

  7. yes youre correct to an extent.... He was disgusted with all the sinning and Satan tempting His creation.... Its really about the past...they learned that sinning separates them from God..

  8. I never saw a snake eat dust.  I thought they ate mice, or other animals.

  9. It probably meant something way back then, but that meaning is now lost to us (the Christians may have their own ideas, but they are only guessing).

  10. Interesting observation.

  11. The two are one in the same . . .

Prophecy and why snakes bite people.

    Be Blessed:-)

  12. Jesus told His disciples that it was prophetic.

It says about her offspring:  "He will crush your head"

    and

    "He will strike his heal".

The first says that Eve's off spring will crush Satan's head and the second was fulfilled in the crucifixion where Satan's people struck at Jesus' heal.

  13. 15 is the prophecy.  Satan and his people deliver a non life threatening blow to the heal of the woman's seed, Jesus.  While Jesus will deliver a life ending blow to Satan's head.   simply put.

  14. I think you missed this.

It is the reason the "Broad" in the B.C. comic beats the snake...

Yes it is prophecy. Moses may have written the book of Genesis around 1500 BC But the message was uttered back at the Garden of Eden, and the telling of it became the history that was passed to the generations that followed.

It was also a message of hope, that God was going to bring the Devil to judgment. This is highlighted by Paul at Romans 8.

20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not by its own will but through him that subjected it, on the basis of hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God.

    Again Paul at Hebrews 2

14 Therefore, since the “young children” are sharers of blood and flesh, he also similarly partook of the same things, that through his death he might bring to nothing the one having the means to cause death, that is, the Devil; 15 and [that] he might emancipate all those who for fear of death were subject to slavery all through their lives.
