Genesis 3:16? Did Adam and Eve have more children?

To the woman he said,

"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children......."

This is what God said to Eve before they were driven out of Eden.

Does this statement imply that there were children born before Cain and Abel in the garden since He said "greatly increase...."?

Thanks! :)

  1. The children of Adam and Eve were clearly born after Seth, see Genesis 5.4 "Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters."

  2. maybe the pain she felt was when she found out one of her sons killed her favorite one?

JER 21:14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.

  3. yes, many.

  4. This is a two part question although you may not have intended it to be.

There where other people on the earth before Adam and Eve. They were the 6th day creations. Adam and Eve were created on the 8th day.

The chapter and verse you refer to, Genesis 3:16 is God telling Eve that because of he sin, women will have greater difficulty giving birth and subsequently more pain.

  5. If you read on to Genesis 4-1, you'll see that this is the first time Adam knew Eve and she bare Cain. In chapter 4 verse 2 she had Abel. Later, after Cain kills Abel, she had many more but there is no written record of their names.

To know anything about the Bible one must read more than a partial verse to make any sense of it.

  6. No, but they had Cain and Able perhaps in the garden or there would be no understanding that pain would be added to childbirth.  After Cain and Able, they had Seth and many more.

  7. Adam and Eve have many sons and daughters after Cain and Abel.

Jesus is a direct decendent of Seth, the son of Adam.

None where born at Eden. All where born after the sin, and after the parents were removed from Eden.

  8. No, this statement was a curse upon all women for all time, not just Eve.  And yes, Eve gave birth to many more.  We know that the first one is the one that is most painful.  After that, hopefully, it's all okay.

  9. They had more children. Names were not listed but they had many more.

  10. My church teaches so

  11. before or after. either way, she still had more children. lots of them actually. thats would be where Cain got his wife!!!

  12. Instead of just skimming through, read a little further. I think all others are supposed to have come after though.

Gen 4,15 And the Lord said unto him, Therfore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeanance shall be taken on him seven-fold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

I think at this point it was Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel. Till Cain slew him. Who were the others that might kill Cain.

Gen5 is the generations of Adam. Which tells of his other children.

  13. Adam and Eve is fake just like the whole bible

  14. The Bible says that they had other sons and daughters after Seth, but it doesn't exclude the possibility of them having some before.

  15. Adam and Eve are the parents of all mankind(according to the Bible).  If they had two sons and one killed the other, doesn't that mean they would have to have a few daughters later on?

  16. Yes-they had MANY!!!!

  17. No, it just means that the pains would be greater than before anticipated. Had they not sinned and then had Cain, there would be no child-bearing pains. After Cain came Abel, then Seth, then the rest...I think.
