I want to get genetic testing later in life when i have the money. For curiousity and information. What exactly does it determine or tell you

  1. Genetic testing can tell you a variety of things - depending on what is tested for, how complex the test is, and how much futher we will be advanced in that area of science by the time you get it done.

    Currently genetic testing tests for genetic diseases or mutant genes which demonstrate an increased chance of developing a genic/inherieted disorder.

    Screening for: mental retardation, to see if you are a carrier of a specific marker, DNA testing, parental relationships

    Right now - the main purpose would be to see if you are at risk for developing a certain disease or passing a gene that would cause a particular disease to your future children.
