Question:

Genetic Testing-- so scared?!?

My son had fragile x testing done 2 weeks ago. The doctor got the results, signed them , but never called me. I called and they said he has to show it to a neurologist.

Does that automatically mean they found something wrong?

  1. Excuse me, the doctor got the results of a genetic test on your son and is not disclosing them to you???  He's either unable to interpret the results, or he's delaying you for some reason.

You have the right to know, without waiting for a second opinion from a neurologist. I would get on the phone and require him to fax the results to you.

  2. I don't think anything automatically means anything, but it may be that he wants to be sure that the results are correctly interpreted before he speaks to you and possibly tells you something that may not be correct.

Whoever is responsible for interpreting the results, though, should be talking with you.  I would assume that the tests came back fairly recently--genetic testing always has to be sent out to special labs and does unfortunately take a while to run and for the results to come back--but they should tell you when they will have the interpretation for you.

I would ask for the number of the neurologist.  I hope you get this resolved soon!
