What kind of scientist works on genetic engineering in the lab? Would this be a job for a chemist?

I would love to try this myself but wonder how much do they need this tpe of career? Like is it a big need as a nurse?

A biologist, specifically a geneticist or genetic engineer does this type of thing in the lab.

It isn't really a job for a chemist. They work more with chemicals and synthesizing things by carrying on complex reactions with different chemicals.

A genetic engineer works with DNA and other genetic material inside cells.

EDIT: To Ebony202 below. Since you are wondering, genetic engineering is one of the biggest jobs nowadays. A decade ago the technology didn't even exist, and the field is expanding at an alarming rate. It is becoming highly specialized and they constantly need more and more people. The research involved pays a lot of money and it very prestigous because it helps diagnose, treat, and sometimes cure genetic diseases. Another field that is rapidly expanding is Biotechnology. If there is anywhere to put your stocks, that's where it is.
