i think its kind of scary. I know it says that they included "suicide genes" in these bacteria so they will die off if they get out of the lab, but evolution always wins. if even one manges to survive and escape, bacteria can reproduce like crazy and if it gradually becomes normal flora of the earth over a period of decades or centuries it could really s***w up the atmosphere in my opinion.

  1. I don't think this 'CO2-into-fuel-turning' bacteria is a good idea.Only one mistake would be enough to cause a disaster(just like with all new,not enough tested products).I mean, there are so many better ways to win fuel, like using the energy of sun and wind. You can never expend them, and they're better for the environment.

  2. As you say, very risky.

Personally, I think the idea of opposing one huge man made change with another is not a good idea.  How could we be sure we'd get it right?

Far better to just reduce burning fossil fuels, and get out of the game.

"If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."

  3. Of course there is a risk, but if it is safely used, it would be very smart. Co2 is a global warming gas, and recycling it is, in my opinion, quite intelligent.

  4. FrankienFuel, sounds good to me
