A good way to start an essay is to conduct research. Try to find resources that describe what GM food is and what are the arguments for and against it? Based on this research develop a thesis, and write the essay to support that thesis.

You probably should go to a library to find references as most of what you will find on-line will be propaganda (for both sides). If you need help, at a library you can talk to the staff about your topic and they can help you get started. Remember most on-line sources are not applicable as essay references (e.g. wikipedia is NOT a reference site!).

A good way to start your essay would be to describe, in your opinion, a world that has fully accepted GMOs and how life on Earth would be different when all plant crops are produced that way.  Would it be beneficial? Would it cause harm to the environment and human health? It's up to you and how you view GMOs to present your case, then support with factual research.
