  1. I'm not aware of any other terms commonly used for these.

    Both are terms to explain whether the alleles (variations of a gene) are the same or different within an organism.

    For instance, if a flower color could be red (determined by the dominant allele "R") or white (determined by the recessive allele "r"), in a diploid organism, you could have 3 possible combinations of these alleles:  RR, Rr, and rr.  Both RR and rr are homozygous, because both allels (letters) are the same.  Rr is heterozygous, because they're (at least the case) is different.
