  3. You will have a great time in Geneva.

I do not know much of the exciting stuff within Geneva, but you will figure those things quickly with your student friends.

    Things to do:

Geneva is the location of some UN organisations, so surely you should visit them.

Also the old town of Geneva is very nice.

During summer the lake (Geneva) offers many attractions, so just enjoy the time in, on or at the lake.

Geneva is close to the France, the French Alps and Vallais, so just get yourself out into the mountains and see the tallest mountains in Europe. I must see I would recommend is Zermatt with the Matterhorn.

Also around Geneva you should find some other nice littel rural towns like Gryuerre or Mountreoux. Do not miss the Jazz festival every summer in Montreoux.

Well, there is still a year to go for you, so do some research on tour-guides, but most important come with fun and an open mind and you will find treasurs for yourself nobody could tell you in advance.

    have a good trip

  4. You should enjoy Geneva - particularly in summer when the the city is buzzing with people out on the lake.

There are a lot of museums in and around Geneva.  Would highly recommend the Red Cross Museum and also a visit to the Palais de Nations (the UN building).  The old town is lovely to walk around in.

Depending on how long you will be here, you might want to consider buying a half price train card (lots of info about swiss trains at www.sbb.ch).

Day trips from here include:  Gruyeres (home of the famous cheese, a cool looking castle and a slightly odd museum of the art from the same guy that did Alien), Annecy (in France), Chamonix (recommend the telepherique up to Mont Blanc - amazing views!).  Montreux (from which you can easily walk to the Chateau de Chillon) is a great day trip.

There are also lots of hot springs and hiking areas within easy transport distance - Thonon-les-Bains, Evian, Lavey-les-Bains.

If you are coming with an organised program they can help you organise some trips as many things are most fun in groups.

If the weather is warm enough you can also swim in the lake (or take some nice boat trips in the lake (and even take a boat to places such as Montreux or Yvoire (a lovely medievil town).

    Enjoy!
