Gennady Golovkin to defend his titles against Japanese proud Makoto Fuchigami – Boxing News
Gennady Golovkin, the current WBA World and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, will defend his titles against Japanese sensation, Makoto Fuchigami, the current OPBF middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held on Saturday
May 12, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view put forth by Alexander Krassyuk of K2 Promotions Ukraine and the ring for the bout-stacked event will be set up at Ice Palace Terminal situated in Brovari, Ukraine.
The Saturday night showdown will be headlined by the WBO and IBO light middleweight championship bout between Zaurbek Baysangurov and Michel Soro and will also witness Isa Akberbayev defend his International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental cruiserweight
title against Mauro Adrian Ordiales in a 12-round battle.
Gennady, 30, recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming bout and vowed that after Makoto he will take on Felix Sturm adding that if Felix does not accept his offer he is ready to take on any world champion in between the light middleweight and super
middleweight divisions.
The Kazakh proud Golovkin, has been in a total 22 bouts and boasts an undefeated win streak. He has not lost even a single bout and has nailed 19 of his opponents by sheer knockout.
The orthodox Gennady grabbed his WBA world title from Milton Nunez and since then has successfully defended it against Nilson Julio Tapia, Kassim Ouma, and Lajuan Simon.
In his last bout with Simon, Gennady also collected the vacant IBO middleweight title and at the moment, proudly resides at World Boxing Organisation’s 10th rank. His opponent, Makoto, also possesses a pretty decent resume and has been in a total 25 bouts.
The southpaw Fuchigami has emerged victorious in 19 bouts. The 28-year-old has pinned just 10 of his opponents by knockout and since his last loss to Tetsuya Suzuki, is on a nine-bout win streak.
Makoto later on not only avenged his loss to Suzuki but also grabbed the Japanese middleweight title and defended it successfully against four opponents. At the moment, the Japanese proud is the owner of OPBF middleweight gold which he snatched from Koji
Sato.
During the short media interaction, Gennady shared his future plans and stated, “I feel comfortable at 160 but I’m willing to go down to 154 or up to 168 to fight the best in the world. There are many big names in all three weight classes and I’m willing
to travel anywhere to fight these other champions.”
The odds are 60 percent in favour of Gennady only because he possesses a flawless resume and win ratio otherwise both men are equal in almost all the facets of the sport, the reason why the critics are predicting the bout to be a toe-to-toe one.
As per the WBA order, if Gennady wins the bout he will become the number one contender for Felix Sturm’s WBA super world middleweight title.
