Gennady Golovkin to face Grzegorz Proksa in September – Boxing News
Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan and Grzegorz Proksa, both will make their American debut in the ring against each other on September 1, in the main event of Boxing After Dark on HBO at Turning Stone Casino in Verona.
Gennady, a middleweight champion, currently resides in Germany, even though he is from Kazakhstan. Proksa is from Poland but lives in England and is a European champion.
“Proksa has never been in the ring with a puncher like me and I'm here to show the world what I'm made of. I've wanted to fight in the United States for a long time and look forward to fighting the best middleweights in the world in the near future,” said
Golovkin when asked about his fight against Proksa.
Golovkin is currently training in Big Bear, California.
As a reply to Golovkin’s statement, Proksa said, “I have no doubt in my mind that I have the ability to knock out Golovkin. My opportunity to showcase my talents to the world has arrived and I'm not going to let it slip away. This will be a difficult fight
but I believe in myself to come out victorious and I'm going to bring an aggressive game plan for the fans.”
He added, “I'm coming to the U.S. to impress and take home the title."
Previously, Golovkin was scheduled to face Dmitry Pirog, as the latter fractured a disk in his back earlier this month.
After Pirog’s injury, Proksa and Vanes Martirosyan were two names that emerged as possible foes for Gennady. Eventually, Proksa became the man to face Golovkin.
As of now, both the younger fighters are excited and thrilled for their American debuts. As Proksa puts it, he wants to impress the US market of boxing and to take the title home.
Every boxer wishes to create an influence in the American market to get bigger fights. The most paying fights in the boxing industry happen in the USA and therefore it is an ambition of every young fighter to leave an impression there.
For now, this is exactly what Golovkin and Proksa are looking forward to do in September.
