Gennady Golovkin visits NY Rangers game in NYC – Boxing news
Gennady Golovkin, the undefeated WBA middleweight champion from Kazakhstan, is making a visit to New York City to attend the NY Rangers game The Garden tonight.
Golovkin has supposedly put his training on hold for three days to make this trip.
Gennady Golovkin has 22 wins and 19 knockouts in his bag, and he has remained unbeaten to date. According to the champion, it has been his dream since childhood to fight in Madison Square Garden. It is his first time in New York and he seems quite excited.
He asserted, “This is my first time in New York and it is a great city. I love the energy of the people and I can help them celebrate the Super Bowl victory of the New York Giants. There are great boxing fans in New York – at the airport people were already
asking for my autograph.”
Not only is he there to watch the game, he will also be attending interviews with some of the most prominent US television channels. Moreover, he is also scheduled to meet Ambassador from Kazakhstan. In his honour, there is also a special event being held
at the Consul General office on Wednesday afternoon.
Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, on Golovkin’s trip said, “We are excited about this trip for Gennady. It has been his dream to fight in Madison Square Garden and this trip is a big step to making this dream a reality.”
He further added that his agency is planning on using the same marketing strategies they used for Vitali and Wladimir to make their fight possible in New York.
Golovkin currently competes at 75 kg, Middleweight. He won a silver medal in 2004 Summer Olympics. Even though he is young, he is currently rated among the best middleweight fighters in the world. His undefeated streak has given the required to his career.
As of now, the champion is in New York enjoying his time and trying his level best to make his dream come true. If he gets a chance to fight in New York it will be one of the biggest matches of 2012.
