Genoa 0 - 1 Cagliari: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Acquafresca punishes the hosts - Serie A recap
CFC Genoa and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cagliari-Calcio-c38716 locked horns on Sunday, the 3rd of April, at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in a mid-table Serie A clash. The visiting side notched up a shaky win which earned Cagliari the three points, but the result did not have any major
impact on the League table as both the sides are already out of contention for European places.
The home side went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation. Rodrigo Palacio and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Floro-Flores-c6312 started upfront for the hosts while Eduardo started in goal. The visitors, on the other hand, went in with a 4-3-2-1 formation with Robert Acquafresca playing
as the lone striker. Simone Missiroli and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrea-Cossu-c5679 played behind Acquafresca. Michael Aggazi guarded the visitor’s net.
Cagliari looked good on paper and made a positive start to the match. On-loan striker from Genoa, Acquafresca, was the one who threatened the home side’s defence. Genoa were kept on the back-foot right from the start as the Rossoblu kept coming forward.
Continuous pressure resulted in a goal for the away team after Acquafresca punished Grifone on the 16th minute mark. Home team battled hard to make a comeback into the match but were continuously denied by the strong Cagliari defence. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Davide-Astori-c10639
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michele-Canini-c25487 kept their head and were quiet brilliant in the central defence for the Rossoblu. The Home team, on the other hand, looked completely out of sorts in front of their opponents. The Grifone were hardly given any space to move forward as the
first half drew to a close with the visitors in ascendency.
Genoa came out with some flare in the second half and it seemed as if the home side were to finish Cagliari’s lead early in the half but the visitors stood firm. The home team, despite looking a different outfit as compared to the first half, failed to score.
Manager Davide Ballardini made some tactical changes in order to get his team on level terms but nothing worked on that night for the Serie A outfit. Rossoblu seemed happy with their one goal lead and decided to protect that lead. With the game drawing to
a close, the visitors started showing signs of jadedness but the final whistle came to their rescue. The match, that lacked some intensity, ended in the away team’s favour.
With this win, Cagliari have moved up to the tenth spot while Genoa find themselves 12th in the League table. Cagliari will host Brescia while Genoa will travel away to play Juventus on the 10 of April for their next league game.
