Genoa confirm the capture of Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey: Serie A news
Italian side, Genoa C.F.C, have confirmed that they are extremely close to the signing of Fiorentina goalkeeper, Sebastian Frey.  
The Rossoblu confirmed the deal on their official website and revealed that the player will undergo a medical next week.
The note on the official website read: “President Enrico Preziosi has reached an agreement with Fiorentina over the signing of the French goalkeeper. The transfer will be ratified next week after Frey has completed his medical. Frey, who seemed very motivated in his meeting with the Preziosi family, strongly wanted the Grifone by also accepting a pay cut.”
The Italian side were locked in negotiations with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salvatore-Sirigu-c32282 and Frey but the former opted to move to French side, Paris Saint Germain, hence paving the way for Fiorentina shot-stopper.
The Marassi outfit were desperately in need of a new number one to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emiliano-Viviano-c12483 to replace the Portuguese international but he sustained a horrific knee injury during the training and is ruled out of action for approximately 6 months.
Frey is expected to undergo a medical next week and will sign a five year contract at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The 31-year-old was unsettled at Fiorentina after falling in the pecking order of the goalkeepers and had told the club that he would leave in the summer.
The French international will become Genoa’s sixth major signing of the season as they continue to improve their squad after finishing in the top half in the 2010/11 campaign. Several other clubs including Cagliari and newcomers, A.C Siena, were interested in signing the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan shot-stopper but the option of joining Genoa looked more attractive to the Frenchman.
Frey joined the Viola from Parma in 2006 and made 160 appearances for the club in his five years stay at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. He also has two international caps for the French national team under his belt.
