Genoa resist as A.C. Milan drop points
A.C. Milan visited Stadio Luigi Ferraris to take on Genoa on Sunday, 6 of February, 2011. Milan went into the game sitting 1st on the table, as league leaders, with 48 points while Genoa started the game on the 14th spot.
The leaders were looking to stretch their lead to 5 points from the 2nd placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 as the home side were looking for something inevitable to happen. A noteable factor is that, A.C. Milan have not won on this ground since 2007.
Genoa posed some early threats as the half got underway. The home side provided some long balls to Mattia Destro to try and take an early advantage but the move didn’t come off as Milan cleared.
No side seemed to have got any rhythm to the game as the early part of the half resulted in some scrappy play in the middle. The home side gained control as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Floro-Flores-c6312 in the box but he could only manage a corner from that promising ball.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 and Robinho combined but the latter’s effort went over the bar.
Destro was forced off the field in the 13th minute as he pulled his hamstring and was replaced by the Argentinean Rodrigo Palacio. The Rossoneri’s soon came in their stride and started showing some passing skills in the middle.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-Bonera-c10109 brought Giandomenico Mesto to give the hosts, a free kick in a very dangerous position.
It also earned the Italian, the first booking of the game. Genoa made a complete hash of the free kick and instead conceded it. The visitors took full advantage, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Pato-c4901 gave Milan, the lead in the 28th minute, after tapping in the ball from Ibrahimovic. The goal resulted due to some slack play by the home side.
Now the Rossoblu’s were showing some urgency in order to square the tie sooner rather than later. Rossi and Kucka combined in an effort to try and knock Milan’s defence down but it did not shake a bit.
Suddenly in the 45th minute, Flores equalised for Genoa after the ball came back to him, ricocheting of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-van-Bommel-c24148 as the half drew to a close at 1-1.
Milan were looking dangerous as the second half got underway and right away Ibrahimovic found http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Flamini-c24685 on the go. Eduardo intercepted as the host breathed a little easily. Once again, Milan came forward with Robinho, only to be saved by a marvellous challenge from Rossi.
The visitors were on top in the early stages as they looked to stretch their lead. After a flurry of attacks, Milan rested as the hosts started to pile up the pressure but to no avail as both defences looked solid.
Rossoneri introduced a fresh pair of legs as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302 was on for Robinho. Milan, for a while had to defend as Genoa were pressing really hard on the back of some great home support.
The game reached its closing stages as, first, Konko and then Silva picked up a yellow card. The Rossoblu soon realised that they should sit back and be content with this score line as the visitors stepped up the gas to exert their superiority but some relentless defending by the home team denied Milan the winner.
The match ended on level terms as the leaders had to remain content with a draw. A.C. Milan are now 3 points clear at the top and can’t afford to drop points in the coming matches.
