Gentleman Duke to make the most of heavy going in Listowel Races Supporters Club Lartigue Hurdle (Handicap)
Owner John P. McManus has a very strong hand in Tuesday’s Listowel Races Supporters Club Lartigue Hurdle (Handicap), and a notable share of the purse is likely to come his way at Listowel.
It is not very hard to make a strong case for all his entries, but the best of the quartet could prove to be Gentleman Duke. After a long vacation of more than half a year, the Arthur Moore-trained is aiming to return strongly. He does not look too harshly
treated on his first venture into the handicap company.
The 4-year-old handles cut in the ground very nicely, and it will be a massive here today. The Paul McEnery-bred was last seen at Gowran Park in March 2012. On a soft track, he managed things intelligently to ensure the third place in the "Tetratema - Son
Of The Tetrarch" Maiden Hurdle.
It was a bit unlucky trip for him, as he missed the second place only by a neck’s distance. After a long layoff, the son of Bachelor Duke is fully fresh. The moisture in Listowel’s surface is an added bonus for him. Hence, there is no reason why he should
not come up with a bold show today.
The 2-mile event has attracted a huge line-up of 18 runners, including Gentleman Duke. They will be in search of a handy cash prize worth €29,250. The officials are due to start the Grade C affair at 16:35 GMT.
Blue Cannon is another fascinating runner. The 4-year-old is fully pumped following a fresh strike. The spectators at Down Royal saw him seizing the top rank by three quarters of a length in the Victoria Square Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap last week. The
conditions are a lot testing this time, thus one should not trust him blindly.
It looks an ideal trip for Train Of Thought, who could ultimately be overpriced. Both he and Blue Cannon carry decent chances, but the bettors should stick only with Gentleman Luke. Moore’s charge, who is an expert of soft ground, is unlikely to face any
trouble whatsoever in getting the better of his opponents. Good luck to all the horses.
