For starters, all people are something of a mystery.

When I personally speak of a woman being a mystery to me, what I'm really saying is that I can't understand her motives.  Sometimes we just have a tendancy to be careful with what we reveal about ourselves, and thus we all have the potential to be a mystery.

To me, then, its not just women that are a mystery - its everyone, to some extent.

Not really.

Women are actually just controlled by their hormones for the most part (some aren't, but many are) and when you understand how the hormones in their bodies work you can figure out women very easily actually.

In truth, no. Except of course to the immature male.  Women merely have different interests and priorities to men. Both sexes are necessary to move the human race forward.
