Geocaching vs Cisting Anyone tried them both?

It's like Geocaching, but different. On the Trail of the Cists (www.cistrail.net - www.cistrail.us).

I was wondering if anyone has tried them both and how the compare?

What are the differences?

  1. I do both cisting and geocaching but there are very few geocaches near where I live so I do mostly cisting. Cisting is much like geocaching without a GPS reciever, except to register the find of a  cist on the website cistrail.net you must remove one item from the cache and replace it with another, but to register a geocache found on the website geocaching.com it is not necessary. Therefore all cists have several items to make exchanges plus a log book but some geocaches only have a logbook.  Some geocaches are for premium members only, but there are no premium memberships in cisting. I also find it much easier and faster to get the information I need to find a cache from cistrail.net than from geocaching.com.

  2. We tried geocaching briefly but once we heard about cisting we converted. The kids are much happier with cisting because there are actual "treasures" for them to find instead of just a log book. It is also really cool to read some of the clues people write. It is a great outdoor activity for kids. We are cisting addicts for sure and there will be no going back to geocaching.
